Prompt #2: Defining Ethics

Business ethics, or additionally known as corporate ethics, are applied guidelines that businessmen and women abide by in order to fulfill company policy. Alongside company policy, these guidelines offer a higher number of satisfied customers, and a more efficient workplace. These common and general ethical guidelines include the following:
  • Trustworthiness
  • Respect
  • Responsibility
  • Fairness
  • Caring
  • Citizenship

For executives, there are more standards in which someone needs to take into hand

  • Honesty
  • Integrity
  • Trustworthyness
  • Loyalty
  • Fairness
  • Concern for others
  • Respect for others
  • Law abiding
  • Commitment to excellence
  • Leadership
  • Reputation and morale
  • Accountability
These ethical guidelines should be used on and off the job. Being respectful, honest, and loyal, for example, are all immensely important things in an active society. If you do not have these characteristics, fitting in will be difficult, and so will keeping a job. All of these traits are important in keeping the workplace a clean and efficient environment. Considering what is shown in movies, such as The Wolf of Wallstreet, and the phrase "It's just business", some may say businessmen and women are not trustworthy, honest, or loyal. These preconceived interpretations of the busines world are false for the majority of the time. Pursuasion can easily be perceived as lying in the business sector.
