Starting a Career in Economics

Looking for a job that involves economics? Most of the positions don't even have the word "economics" in the title. In Bill Conerly's article "Career Advice for Economics Majors," he explains the type of jobs that many economics majors are doing.

Many economists partake in jobs such as analytics in sales or comparing values of each customer on a website or app. These jobs are under the category of business, but they won't have a label that specifically says "for economics majors". This makes it difficult for economists to find jobs, and the competition to fill the positions is much harder. Accountants and other business majors are able to take on the same job because many jobs for economic majors don't only involve economic oriented skills.

After reading Conerly's article, the scarcity and competition for jobs becomes clear. Not everyone is able to find a job with a specific major out of college because they might not be looking for a career that revolves around their field. The best way to stay ahead of the game and guarantee an advantage over others is to study hard and constantly find a new obstacle to tackle. Learning something new every day and building on skills to master new techniques is key. This sets the successful people apart from the average ones. To find a new skill, take classes online or find a book that walks through how to use new software. The field of business is always expanding, and there will be new skills to always learn.
